Rose Hilderbrand

According to the Dawes rolls, Jawiuga Uclvnt or Rose Hilderbrand was  1/2 degree of Cherokee blood. She was 15 when this photo was taken in 1905. Rosa Hilderbrand was the daughter of Benjamin Joseph Hilderbrand and Laura Ta-Gi Ballou who lived in the Vinita/Whiteoak, Oklahoma area. Her Cherokee name was Jawiuga (pronounced Chaw-i-yu-ka).  Uclvnt (pronounced Oo-clunt) means "Shattered corn".
