Matching and plotting

Our goal is to discover new information that may be gleaned from family stories and memories, then overlay this information into a patchwork view of history. It will create a more complete picture of the past than could not be made through standard genealogy programs.

The site is available not only to those whose of Cherokee blood, but also those whose ancestors interacted with the tribe. This includes intermarried whites, soldiers under the command of Winfield Scott, state militia, Indian agents, and people who lived among the tribe for various reasons. By collecting information from this diverse segment of people we have a better image of historical truth.

Below is an example plot  information from hundreds of family stories related to events on one portion of the Trail of Tears. plot2

While there may be erroneous information, it is clear that events in a majority of the stories match.
